COSCA Certificate in Counselling Skills: Children & Young People Please register your interest for the next course starting August 2011 Course Introduction:
The COSCA Certificate in Counselling Skills - Children and Young People has been developed from the long established generic counselling skills course.
The course:-
- Provides a COSCA certificate 144 hour training programme in counselling skills, delivered over 4 Modules of 36 hours each.
- Provides 60 credit points from Middlesex University (optional *)
- Contains four strands: skills, knowledge, self-awareness and ethics.
- Uses experiential learning e.g students practice in groups of three.
- Is mainly designed for people in helping or caring professions with specialist focus on children and young people.
- Helps the individuals who complete it to develop and apply counselling skills in non-counselling settings.
- Is a professionally recognised qualification in counselling skills.
- Provides an excellent starting point for those who wish to train as a counsellor or psychotherapist.
Students will develop:
- Good interpersonal and communications skills.
- Active listening using verbal and non-verbal skills e.g paraphrasing, asking questions in a helpful way, summarising, attending and responding to the speaker.
- Inserting the qualities of acceptance, genuineness and empathy into a helping relationship.
- An understanding of counselling theory.
Students may progress to the Diploma in Higher Education Counselling Children and Young People as detailed here.
Meet The Tutor: Rachel Hudson
Rachel is an experienced and accredited counsellor, psychotherapist, supervisor and trainer. She holds a Masters degree in Integrative Psychotherapy and has 15 years experience in practice, following a successful career in teaching and youth work. She established and ran a counselling service in Birmingham Senior School, and has created and taught counselling courses up to Masters level in Counselling Children & Young People.
Course Dates:
This course is due to start in August 2010. Full course dates available soon.
The course is taught over 19 Fridays from 1.30pm to 8.30pm and 5 Saturdays from 9.30pm to 4.30pm - ie 6 hours of teaching each day and 1 hour for breaks. The course is scheduled to run from 20th August 2010 to 24th June 2011 with breaks between the four modules.
Cost: £1,399 - payable as a £399 deposit before the course starts and 10 monthly payments of £100.
* An additional fee of £500 is required to cover the cost of registration with Middlesex University if students want to work toward gaining 60 university credits whilst on the Certificate Course. If students progress to the Diploma in Higher Education - Counselling Children & Young People the £500 will be reimbused as the registration fee is included in the fees of the DipHE. On successful completition of the DipHE students will gain the 60 credits for the Certificate Course.
